• Why have you started reporting some cases in the Business Law Reports as Digests?
As stated in the Manifesto in Issue 1 (January 2007), it was always our intention to include, as well as full reports of those cases which we considered indispensable to business clients and their advisers, a selection of minor and practice points in summary form. Often these points arise in the course of long judgments in cases turning on their own facts, so there is no need to report the whole judgment.
• What is the difference between Bus LR Digest and a full Bus LR report?
Bus LR Digests are printed on green paper and in slightly smaller print, but otherwise are set out in the same way as full reports, except that instead of including all the judgment(s) in the case, they only include those paragraphs relevant to the point of principle or practice on which the case is being reported (or “digested”). The text is reproduced from the approved judgment, but the digests are not proof-read by the judges in the same way as the full reports are.
• Will Bus LR Digests be included in the online version? Will they be included in the annual bound volume?
Yes, they will be. They will be indexed and may be searched and accessed in exactly the same way as full reports in the online version. Although they will not appear in a different colour, they may easily be distinguished from the full reports by their running heads and the use of the letter D before the page number. They will also be included in the annual bound volume, collected together at the back of the volume.
