The ICLR Appoints a New Editor

On the 31st December 2007 Mr Robert Williams (pictured left) will be retiring as Editor of The Law Reports after 31 years with the Incorporated Council of Law Reporting for England and Wales.

Mr Clive Scowen (pictured below left), the present Managing Editor, has been appointed Editor with effect from 1st January 2008. A graduate of Law from the University of Bristol in 1980, Mr Scowen was called to the Bar at Inner Temple in 1981. He has been at the ICLR for 24 years working as a reporter for 7 years, for10 years as a Deputy Editor and for 1 year as a Managing Editor. As well as a successful career in Law Mr Scowen worked as a councillor for the London Borough of Harrow from 1990 to 2002. Since 1980 he has also been a Member of Court at the University of Bristol, and he has been a Lay Reader of the Church of England since 1992 becoming a Member of the Church of England General Synod in 2005.

As of 1st January 2008 Mr Paul Magrath (pictured right, to the right of Mr Williams) will be Development Editor and will be responsible for introducing further new specialist titles to satisfy the needs of the increasing specialisation of members of the legal profession, and for the Council's website strategy. Mr Magrath will continue to edit The Business Law Reports which was launched at the start of 2007 in both print and online formats. Sales have exceeded expectations and the title now covers more company, commercial and intellectual property cases than any other specialist series of law reports. The Council intends to develop further www.lawreports.co.uk which is the leading online and free source of summaries of reportable judgments.

Miss Clare Noon, Editor of The Industrial Cases Reports, the leading employment law series, and Mr Bernard Agyeman, Assistant Editor of The Law Reports, which are always cited in preference, will report to Mr Scowen.

The Incorporated Council of Law Reporting for England and Wales publishes The Law Reports, The Weekly Law Reports, The Industrial Cases Reports and The Business Law Reports, the first new series in fifty years and the only series to be offered both online and in print simultaneously to subscribers.
